Diary Entry for my Magazine.

28th November, Wednesday
  • I wrote up my article research which consisted of research/ information on ‘fool on parade’, their fan sites and YouTube videos.
29th November, Thursday
  • I designed the layout of my magazine, choosing the title style/colour.
  • I wrote up the cover lines and set them in there positions.
  • I put on my chosen front cover picture, which I had taken on Tuesday.
  •  I also began to do screenshots of my step by step progress of my front cover magazine.
30th November, Friday
  • I worked on my magazine, editing the colours to decide what colours would go best with my front cover picture.
  • Also, I started writing my questions up for my interview on ‘fools on parade’ (unfinished).
  • I continued working on my step by step plan.
3nd December, Monday
  •  I re-done my screen shots because I needed to change the title name of my magazine.
  • Had to remove the picture used for my front cover.
  • I worked on my blog, Putting on my diary entry.
  • I need to retake my pictures for tuesday, as it is the dead line for out photographs to be taken.
6th December, Thursday
  • Worked on my magazine, by editing the colour of my coverlines.
  • Changed my background picture.
  • Moved a lot of my magazine features to decide what looked better where.
  • We had a deadline to have our front cover magazine printed to show what we had produced so far.
7th December, Friday
  • I edited my magazine front cover by editing the pictures wall, and stretched out my title.
  • Went onto produce my contents page by using Quark xpress, filled in the featured articles and the title ‘Contents’.
  • I filled in any of the missing dates in this diary entry.
  • Made sure my blog was up to date.
10th December, Monday
  • Worked on my blog, by writing in the diary entry.
  • Continued on my content page, doing the regular features and doing the boxes to where my pictures will be going
11th December, Tuesday
  •  Finished off my content page and printed it.
  • Wrote in my diary entry .
13th December, Thursday
  •  For the whole lesson we were given ideas for what can go in our evaluation through questions 1-7, only able to question a few questions so far though.
14th December, Friday
  • I worked on my contents paged by putting blue bars around the headlines and around the 'content' to give it more of a bold look, able to catch the audience eye. Also still using the colours from my questionnaire and to go with my front cover.
  • l began to set up my double paged spread choosing the correct font for the headline but because i hadnt done my interview yet i had to wait before i could do it.

17th December, Monday
  • For my content page i filled in more pictures which i had taken before hand and choosing the best ones i filled them into the picture squares which i had layed out before hand.
  • I worked on my front cover by fixing the barcode and changing the colours of some of the headlines.
18th December, Tuesday
  • I was doing my interview today with the band member of 'fools on parade', so i was still unable to begin my double paged spreed just yet, so i worked more on my front cover still focusing on whether it was the right blue which i was using, as on some bit, it was hard to read and needed it to stand out abit more.
  • I wrote in my diary entry on the week i had missed out in writing.
20th December, Thursday
  • The night before i had wrote up the interview so i was ready to just copy and paste it onto my double paged and putting it into 3 columns and putting the font questions in a different colour so that it would stand out but still using the colour scheme from the begining.
  • I wrote up at the begining a little bit of text to introduce them a little and make them sound amazing.
  • I then chose a quote from the text and used it as the headline, which would catch the audiences attention and make them want to read it.
7th January, Mond
  • My work was looked at by my teacher and i had to work on my front cover and do the things on it he wanted me too do, which were things like; make the picture go a little over the tittle, make the artist name stand out from the other text explaining what's happening, the different colour, put a bar at the bottom of it which will allow the "plus" to stand out alot more.
8th January, Tuesday
  • I worked on the corrections, i was asked to do, struggled on how to get the image to go over the title though. I started the evaluation over the holidays, i had done question 4, on publisher.

10th January, Thursday
  • Continued with the corrections, for my front cover magazine.
  • Started doing question 2 of the evaluation on documents just so i can figure out how to make it better in presenting my work.

14th January, Monday
  • Finished with my front cover completly, and had it checked.
  • I printed off my contents page and got corrections on that and worked on those corrections throughout the lesson.
  • Due to the fact i had to take some more pictures, i had to give in for thursday my content page was no where near complete.

15th January, Tuesday
  • I completed the majority of the corrections on my content page, besides from the pictures, i needed 3 more pictures to go on side it.
  • I worked on my double paged spread but unsure about the picture that i have used for it, since it isnt a very good picture i may just re-take the picture.
  • I did more on my diary entry, wrote in some extra days i had missed.
  • I tried to do question 6 of my evaluation task but bit unsure on whether it is correct.
17th January, Thursday
  • I wrote in my blog, and now i am up to date with it!
  • Developed anything that needs to be done on my content although i am unable to do the pictures which i will do for tomorrow, since my camera was broke.
  • I edited my content page by putting in a small image of my magazine in the corner, which i was told to do as part of my corrections, whether its right im not too sure.
  • I also changed some of the wording in my double paged spread as i had made a couple of errors in spelling and some things even i could not understand.
22nd January, Tuesday
  • I editted the words in my double paged spread so that it was longer and sounded more interesting.
  • I changed the font on the text in my content page because they were different fonts so changed it to 'Californian FB'.
  • I added in the pictures i took on my content page although i am still missing a picture but i just need to find another model and then it will be filled in.
  • Still not too sure on the picture of my double paged spread so im going to take some pictures of the artist.
  • edited the image of my magazine in the corner of my content page to make it small enough to not take up so much room, but big enough so the readers are able to see what it is.
  • I need to show my teacher my work and see what he say's that i should change.
  • I also wrote up a tiny bit of question 3 of the evaluation and put it onto my blog.
24th January, Thursday
  • I changed the pictures on my content page, as the original picture of fools on parade was the same one that i used on my front cover.
  • I then did some of my evaluation, question 2, and continued writing question 3, i am writing it out but later i will be uploading it onto either a voice clip or prezi.
25th January, Friday
  • I changed the title font too  'Franklin Gothic Demi' as i then decided to look at my production that i had done months before hand with what fonts i would be using for different headlines and titles.
  • I then added in a picture of my front cover to the corner of my contents page as many of the normal magazine would contain an image of there cover on their contents, i was then told to tilt it as it allowed it with more of an edge then if it was at a 0 degree angle.
28th January, Monday
  • Sir looked at my work and told me some things that i needed to do on each of my front cover, my content page and my double paged spreed. Which did help alot.
29th January, Tuesday
  • I worked on the following faults on my work so by changing the colours of my headlines so that they would stand out more, and to make the cap from the corner the same width, aswell as that i had to move things closer in like the Positioning statement and the web adress.
  • Then on the bottome right corner i added the price onto the date of the magazine so that it would be parallel to the bar code as so being the same size aswell.
  • I then went through to check for any spelling mistakes. Also filling in any capital letters where it was needed.
31st January, Thursday
  • I changed some of the colours on my front cover so that some of the words would stand out, and i really was not too sure about the colour order i had in the first place.
  • I moved 'megan' abit more towards the centre so that it would stand out more with attraction towards the audience.
  • Moving on too content page i then added numbers to the pictures that linked to the featured articles so that the readers would know, which picture linked to what page.
  • I messed around with the fonts on my 'features' and 'regular' to fit with my Publication plan, and i think it looks alot better then it did, more attention grabing.
1st February, Friday
  • Then on the double paged spreed i stretched 'fools on parade' and made it a lot bigger.
  • I shortened the writing below the title on my double paged spreed as i was told that there was too much writing, and added 'Words and pictures Rhiannon Bescoby' next too it in a much smaller font but still able to read by the human eye.
  • Went back to my front cover and added a black line around the words 'megan' so that it would stand out as its on a dark background.
  • I then started to write up question 6 and some of 7 which later i will put into and audio.
4th February, Monday
  • Sir again looked at my work so that for he could tick off that we were all done, except i needed to do some little things to mine.
  • On my front cover, i added a black line around the writing which was white, and a white line around the black writing this made it instantly stand out.
  • I had began to do a prezi of question 2 in my evaluation.
5th February, Tuesday
  • I wrote up my diary entry, as i had missed out many dates.
  • I finished my Prezi piece, i knew how to work Prezi as i had used it before so i knew it enough.
  • Started to do my production of a front cover, content page and was going to do the DPS after.
  • I started to add pictures i had used onto my blog, and was later going to put up the pictures i had taken throughout.
6th February, Wednesday
  • I worked a lot on my blog as i had done my 'production of front cover, content page' and just had to put my DPS production onto slide share which only took my 5minutes really.
  • I started to finish off my question 4 of the evaluation and uploaded it onto my blog.
7th February, Thursday
  • I uploaded all the pictures from my memory stick onto my blog and wrote a little bit on why i did not use those picture.
  • I then filled out my diary entry.
  • I began to start writting up some of the evaluations so that i was able to use that information when putting it into either an audio, Prezi, or anything else.

Evaluation of school magazine

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challange forms and conventions of real media products?

How did you use new media technologies in the construction of your media product?
Firstly, for my front cover i used photoshop, which was good because i was quite confident with photoshop, as i have used it before, so that was an advantage i had which was alot better then using something i had never used before. I followed the requirements of the codes of conventions for the colours which was to only use 2-3 colours. I saved it as a JPEG.

Secondly, for my content page  I used QuarkXpress, which i had never used before so i wasnt very confident with this software, but after a while i understood how it worked and it was very good for the content page as it was able to produce column lines which for how content pages are set out it was very useful. The pictures were easy to uploads aswell although i did come to some difficulties trying to delete things. But overall was no problem.

What are the strengths and weakenesses of both the product and your use of new media technologies?
Strengths:
  • I used a consistent colour scheme on my front cover and on my contents page. I only used up to 2-3 colours to make my magazine look attractive and not look over packed.
  • I used most of the codes of conventions.
  • I learnt how to use QuarkXpress for my content page, so i am able to continue with that for my music magazine without any troubles.
  • I explored more of Photoshop, so i know understand a lot more about it.
Weaknesses:
  • I did not do all the codes and conventions of a magazine front cover or contents page so I need to make sure that I include all the codes and conventions for next time.
  • remember to put in the price, as i forgot to do small things to my front cover and my content page, so i know now to add it into my music magazine.
  • It took me a while to learn how to use QuarkXpress.

Plans for the front cover of my school magazine

To think of ideas for the title of my school magazine i had to produce a brainstorm with words which relate to school, these were my words:
  • Gossip
  • Students
  • Education
  • Teachers
  • Books
  • Classwork
  • Homework
  • Education
  • Subjects
Out of these words i chose my title to be "Schossip" which is a combination of 'School' and 'Gossip'.

Details of the mise-en-scence of your front cover image
  • I want it to be a medium close up.
  • I want my model to wear casual clothing.
  • I want my model to follow directions.
  • I want my model to be a female.
  • I want my model to smile and stand casual.
Coverlines for the front cover of my magazine
  • "The best GCSE results since 2001"
  • "Volenterring work for the year 10's kick off 'i loved it, it allowed me to be independant and too also meet new people' "
  • "Outragers hair colouring takes over the school"
  • "School fashion that teachers hate"
  • "stolen cameras from the media room, last seen with year 8's"
  • "deodrant band from the common room"
  • "6th formers enjoy the library"
  • "School fashion tips!"
  • "The new and improved library"
  • "asmatic girl falls to the floor due to the use of deodrant"

Photo used in photography exercise

Photography exercise

Our task was to work in pairs and take different photo angles to allow us to understand the different angles for ourselves. We had to take photos of a low angle medium close up, a high angle long show, an extreme close up of the time, a big close up of someone using a mobile phone, a close up of someone in nature, a two shot in medium long shot, an over the shoulder shot of someone writing, a very long shot conveying isolation, a medium close up, a long shot, a photograph which has connotations of friendship, a photograph which has connotations of stress. I have then presented as a powerpoint.
